What is Cannabidiol (CBD)? CBD occurs naturally as a chemical in hemp plants and cannabis. It can be taken into the body system by smoking it or putting its extracted oil right under your tongue. Hemp and cannabis have many cannabinoids, and cannabidiol happens to be one of them. Of all the non-psychotropic compounds found in Cannabis and Hemp plant, CBD is the most abundant and is a phytocannabinoid. The impact of CBD is not on the body system directly; it works on the endocannabinoid receptors that are in the CNS (Central Nervous System) and PNS (Peripheral Nervous System). When the impact is made on these receptors, they work to keep up body balance by maintaining the general body homeostasis. CBD works efficiently in this aspect. Most probably, the scientists that have been studying cannabis effects on the human body system are baffled at the findings that have been achieved. The study showed that the endocannabinoid system exists in the human body and is activated and catalyzed in the presence of cannabinoids. These cannabinoids could be from an external source, often CBD or self-induced cannabinoids in the body system. Endocannabinoid System The fact remains that science has not unraveled all the properties of the cannabinoid system. However, in-depth research has shown that cannabinoids have some effects on the human body system. Without a doubt, the human body has cannabinoid receptors, and the body, on its own, produces some molecules that stimulate these receptors to cause certain body reactions that include; • Hunger and Depression • Mood swings and Anxiety • Insomnia • Relaxation • Pain and Inflammation Researchers have shown that some are regulating and stimulating properties of the endocannabinoid system which accounts for different activities in the human body. Exogenous and Endogenous Cannabinoids Just like the name, endocannabinoid discusses the internal human system. However, stimulation of cell receptors can be achieved when substances are supplied into the system from an external source, and these are known as exocannabinoids Exocannabinoids are known to be derived from cannabis particularly. Cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahyrdrocannabinol (THC) are also well-known sources of exocannabinoids. Endocannabinoids are simply neurotransmitters that are always active to ensure the optimal functioning of the body system. Their indispensable functions make the body function well and not yield to dangerous diseases. Receptors (CB1 and CB2) Both exogenous and endogenous cannabinoids work to stimulate the cellular receptors in the human body. These receptors are broadly classified into two primary groups, namely CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors can be found in the different human body parts; this includes the cerebral area and spine. This group of receptors is responsible for the fact that human beings feel pain, as they are cited at nerve endings. CB2 receptors are embedded in the human immune system and other body parts. Our Health and the Endocannabinoid System Coupled with the primary duties of the cannabinoid system, there are other roles and processes affected by the endocannabinoid system. Control of the digestion process, appetite, fertility, and even memory stimulation are clear functions of the cannabinoid system. Present studies are looking at the effects of exogenous cannabinoids, especially that of THC in the human body. While it’s clear that THC affects the human psyche, the possible effects of THC on the alleviation of cancer, asthma, and pains are being examined. While there are many things yet to be ascertained, it’s clear that the endocannabinoid system has great functions it plays in the human body. Now, we’re keeping our fingers crossed to hear from the scientists who are steadily conducting researches and experiments about the various types of cannabinoids and the effect different body processes. More Research to Be Achieved While there are many known details and information about CBD owing to previous researches, much is yet to be unveiled about CBD and its uses. Suffice it to be that the research about CBD is at its early start.
