Resumen biográfico

Since its introduction, the avermectin series has brought earth-shaking changes in several respect. From the use on river blindness to the low-dose broad-spectrum anthelmintic use on animals; from the replacement of highly toxic pesticides to the treatment of salmon fish lice, the avermectin series has become epoch-making products on human, animals and plants. The avermectin series include abamectin, emamectin benzoate, ivermectin, eprinomectin, doramectin and selamectin. Among them, abamectin and doramectin are produced by fermentation, and the other four are chemically synthesized. After 17 years of development, the supply and demand of avermectin products are close to equilibrium. The application in agriculture has enlarged from high-value economic crops to large-field crops, from low-dose EC formulations to high-dose, innovative formulations. The current market potential mainly stays in the less developed countries. In the field of veterinary, abamectin has been basically replaced, and ivermectin has been fatigued due to resistance and residue problems. But doramectin and eprinomectin are slow in replacing ivermectin because of price and documents problems, although the no milk withdrawal advantage of eprinomectin and the long-lasting low residue advantage of doramectin are very impressive. Selamectin is synthesized from doramectin and is sparking sometimes, which has reminded us the same situation of doramectin before 2010.
